207 Shelters for Abused Adults and Children
Overview
Residents of public or private non-profit shelters for abused adults and children may apply for SNAP.
Prior to certifying any residents for SNAP, the Zone Agency must verify that the shelter is authorized by FNS as a retailer and should have a current certificate from the Internal Revenue Services, which verifies non-profit status.

Currently certified SNAP members who enter a designated abuse shelter
A public or private non-profit abuse shelter that serves abused individuals. If such a facility serves other individuals, a portion of the facility must be set aside on a long-term basis to serve only abused individuals. may apply and be eligible
Having met the qualifications to receive a SNAP benefit by meeting the specified nonfinancial and financial requirements of eligibility. for SNAP benefits in the same month provided that the original certified household contained the abuser. Abuse shelter residents may receive an additional benefit as a separate household only once a month. A new application
Filing a signed Application for Assistance via paper application or through the self-service portal of the eligibility system to establish eligibility and assign a review period. and case number is required.

After determining the shelter qualifies, eligibility is determined using the policies that apply to all other households including income and expenses.
Exception:Eligibility is determined without regard to the income, assets, and expenses of their former household. Jointly held resources shall be considered inaccessible.

Consider room payments to the shelter as shelter costs.

The Human Service Zone must take prompt action to ensure that the former household's eligibility or allotment
The total value of SNAP benefits a household is authorized to receive. reflects the change
Information that is different from what is currently used to determine eligibility and/or benefits. in the household's composition. Such action must include acting on the reported change in accordance with adverse action.
